These are two of the students at the school where Rien volunteers. Chris is the elder sibling at age eleven, but the ten-year-old Claire is a good deal more mature.

Chris is the heir to his family's business. The Rupple family are merchants who transport goods from the ports to North Village. They are known for their honorable business practices and penny-pinching personalities alike. Chris's family is very strict and they are even harder on him than Claire. As a result, Chris is a rambunctious child with a distaste for all rules and authority figures. His dream is to be an adventurer, even though that's not exactly a job anybody is hiring for.

Claire is a smart young girl with an outgoing personality. She is very concerned with the well-being of others, and her concern for her friend is particularly intense. She likes to cook and she has the advantage of a wide variety of ingredients, since her parents are merchants. In the future she hopes to help her brother run the family business, or completely take it over in the case that her brother actually runs away in search of adventure and excitement.

Both siblings have a mutual best friend in Leon Greenstone, an eleven-year-old boy who also attends the school.
